Babipur x Callie Jones Bags
When we decided to create our own reusable bags as an alternative to single-use plastic shopping bags, we decided they should be a beautiful and stand out design as well as practical.
We had the idea to create the bags as a celebration of our new home, the new Babipur warehouse in Porthmadog (which we’re settling into nicely). So, we thought, who better than to collaborate with than local artist, Callie Jones.
Callie Jones
Callie is an illustrator and print maker who creates amazing lino prints inspired by the dramatic landscapes and wildlife surrounding us here in North Wales. After graduating from Kingston University in 1986 she worked as a freelance illustrator in London before relocating to North Wales and renovating a farmhouse which became her new artistic home and which is where her studio is now based. Callie has been a friend of Babipur since the beginning which made this collaboration the perfect match.
Reusable bags
Plastic shopping bags were originally designed to be used again and again because of the durable quality of the material. Unfortunately they have become a single-use item of convenience and are adding to the worlds plastic pollution. We wanted to create a high quality, plastic free alternative, a positive and easy swap. It’s important that a reusable bag is hardwearing and great quality, so we decided to manufacture the bags from sustainable fibre, jute.
Jute fabric
Jute is a natural fibre and is super strong. It’s farmed with no pesticides or fertilisers and nothing is genetically modified. Jute plants absorb 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide and release 11 tonnes of oxygen over their six month lifespan! Jute is hardwearing and makes the perfect fabric for a bag that’s going to be used again and again. Our bags are screen printed with water-based dyes and not only that, they’re biodegradable!
Sponsoring Paola – plastic Exxpedition
£1 from the sale of each reusable bag is going to go towards sponsoring Paola (Founder of Dr Zig’s) who is taking part in Exxpedition, the all-women round the world sailing voyage to help study and find solutions to ocean plastics. As well as sponsoring with each sale, Babipur will also be donating plastic-free products for the crew to use throughout their voyage including shampoo and soap bars, tooth care and reusable sanitary products. At home it is quite easy to put distance in our minds between the plastic products we use and the sea they will inevitably end up in. On a sailing ship it’s impossible to not see the correlation and we’re really excited to be able to bring awareness to this hugely important trip!

So, they’re limited edition, locally designed, ethically made, in celebration of our new home and in support of a hugely important cause. But probably the most important thing about these Babipur x Callie Jone reusable bags is their BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL.
We hope you agree, they are truly a Babipur product through and though.
