Reusable Nappies: What Do I Need?

One of our most frequently asked questions during Real Nappy Week is ‘what do I need to get started?’.

If it’s all new to you and you just want to give reusable nappies a try then all you really need is:

1 at least one nappy

2 somewhere to put your nappy when it’s dirty such as a waterproof bag or bucket

3 a means of washing it such as a washing machine.

That’s it! If your baby is more than a month old then pick a birth to potty (one-size) nappy such as the Pop-in nappy which performs well for most babies. Quick pre wash and give them a whirl! We would recommend buying a small selection of two or three different brands so you can test them out and see which ones you like and see how they work.

Now, your ready to get stuck in and invest in a good bundle, how many and what accessories will you need?

It depends a little on how old your baby is and how often you plan on washing. Older baby’s get through fewer nappy changes than newborns, and if you plan on washing every other day, you won’t need quite so many nappies.

If you need help with the different nappy systems then head over to our Guide to Cloth Nappy Jargon, or join our Facebook group for lots of helpful advice from the Babipur team and other parents.
