Babipur STEMspiration – Periodic Table

Today (*cough yesterday!) marks 150 years since the creation of the periodic table. The very building blocks of life all neatly listed and organised in one handy visual. We are loving seeing your entries and love how creative you’ve been getting.

STEMspiration

This week we want to show you how beautiful science can be with some periodic table inspired mandalas! We love mandalas and they are such a great way to encourage mindfulness in little ones. If you can teach them to spend 5 minutes making something beautiful just for the fun of it, you’ll hopefully see what a therapeutic activity it is for the whole family to enjoy.

*Also letting an enthusiastic toddler utterly destroy it in two seconds flat when you’re finished is immensely satisfying to watch; akin to knocking down a wobbly tower!

Elemental inspired mandalas

We’ve used the gorgeously tactile Grapat Mandala pieces for these ones. They represent the elements; fire, water, earth and wind. We then talked about the elemental groupings on the periodic table and tried to find different liquids, gases, and flammable elements to match each section to.

There isn’t too much longer to wait for the new Grapat mandala pieces either. They’re on their way to Babipur towers!

Wind, inspired by molecular bonds
Water inspired mandala, using the same constructions as the simple H2O molecule.
Fire inspired mandala, using a mixture of the original and new Grapat loose parts

We are really looking forward to spotting a few science themed mandalas on our feeds this week. It is worth mentioning any mandala entries can also be entered into the fortnightly #babipurmandala challenge. If you use the tag, you are automatically entered into a draw for a £10 Babipur  voucher! We do love a cheeky double entry!

How do you enter?

All you have to do is post a picture or video on your public Instagram account or in the Babipur Hangout Group on Facebook showing your little ones making learning fun with the periodic table as the theme. Use the tag #babipurSTEM so we can find your entries and on Instagram don’t forget to tag @babipur too!

Multiple entries are always encouraged. The challenge will runs up to Wednesday 13th March 2019 at 11am. Both the winner and the next challenge will be announced shortly after.

What’s the prize?

This fortnight we’ve chosen the Okonorm modelling clay in your choice of colours (stock dependent) as the prize. This is great for improving muscle tone and fine motor skills. It’s lovely and pliable and is perfect for little hands. We’re also going to add the Organyc 200 cotton buds as they are such a useful zero waste addition to your home and not just for the bathroom either! Cotton buds are great for painting with, crafting and building atoms; the building blocks of life as can be seen in our previous blog post >here<

Make learning fun with Babipur!
