Nappy Days!

Its a typical morning really, I’ve been up since 4.30am, dozed a bit with Tegan and we’re back up at 6.30am, and now changing her nappy. You all know what’s going to happen. The night nappy is saturated, soon as a clean one is on, she’s pulling those poo faces – and before i can say “bore da”, she’s filled the second nappy. I clean up again, and mid-clean up she wees everywhere, and now we have to start all over again, including babygrow. “Good morning mummy!” indeed!  Hi all, I’m Beth and this is Tegan, my daughter, she’s 11 weeks old this week – and an absolute giggling ball of fun at the moment. I’m currently excitedly waiting for my delivery of real nappies, ordered during Real Nappy Week from Babi Pur, and agreed to write a blog about my experiences. So here’s the first missive, about how we came across Babi Pur and how excited I am to see how things progress with the real nappies. Fingers crossed.

Its this constant and terrible waste of nappies that first made me think of using real nappies – although the process won’t get any easier I’m sure with the increased amount of washing (especially with little disasters like this one), it certainly will be better for the environment and the purse. Via a friends’ facebook link, I found Babi Pur, and the website and the blog are real delight to read (especially at night when I should be trying to get back to sleep and not surfing websites on my phone!) Admittedly, I’m also a sucker for cuteness, and the Bum Genius range of colours in Butternut, Blossom, Grasshopper and Twilight got me hook line and sinker.

So wish me luck, and send advice for avoiding accidents like the above – and I’ll let you know how we get on!

Well done Beth! I wish I could have been brave enough to use Real Nappies. Having 3 in nappies it would have saved a fortune but I just couldn’t face the washing, especially with no tumble dryer!

There’s nothing as cute as a little cloth-covered bum! We’ve been very happy with our Bum Genius Flips from Babi Pur. Pob lwc! x

    Well done Beth.

We have some prefolds that can be used with a wrap such as the Econobum/Flip that we lay down on the mat when changing. If these get pee’d on we just put them in the nappy bucket with the nappies. They’re super absorbent so catch the pee before it runs everywhere.

And you’ll always find someone awake on FaceBook in the middle of the night. There are quite a few groups/pages dedicated to cloth bums and they are full of helpful advice.

    Hi Beth,

I am right there with you!! My LO is 10 weeks old and I’m 48hrs into wearing BumGenius from Babi Pur! I’m also using Bamboo Little Lambs for night time as they are so absorbent! The first night I risked 12hour to test them and NO leaks!! We also had what would have been a Poonami right out the side door this morning (and before I changed her), if we’d still been in disposables it would have been a bath job, but it was perfectly contained. I just managed to make a mess changing her out of it, I’m still getting the hang of them!

Good Luck!! I look forward to reading your blogs and seeing many more similarities along the way!
