Zero Waste Week 2016 at Babipur
Every year for one week in September this grassroots campaign sets out to raise awareness of the negative effects that the amount of waste we produce each year has on our environment; it also reaches out to empower people to think about their waste production and reduce it.
Here at Babi Pur we are very conscious about the environment and we are always thinking about ways we can reduce our waste and yours!
Reducing waste at Babipur Towers
Here at Babipur we work hard to keep our waste production as low as possible, and one major way we do this is by recycling and re-using the packaging and boxes that come into our warehouse from our suppliers. We don’t buy in any materials that are not recyclable, our packing tape is paper based, we re-use as many boxes as we can, any boxes we do buy in are made from recycled card and our small despatch bags are biodegradable. This is important to us as we sell such a wide range of goodies of all shapes and sizes and this can produce a lot of packaging!
So instead of it all being thrown away and forgotten about we re-use it all to package up your lovely orders and send them off to arrive safely to you!
Our products help YOU to reduce waste
Not only are we conscious about our packaging but we put a lot of thought into our products, we only source ethically produced, fair trade goods made of natural and sustainable materials. This means the products we sell have a considered impact in the environment and many have a positive impact over their lifetime.
Reusable nappies are awesome
Here at Babi Pur we just love cloth nappies! Cloth nappies are fantastic, wash and re-use over and over again and drastically reduce your household waste. Each day around 8 million disposable nappies are thrown away each day in the UK alone and they all go into landfill because disposable nappies are not recyclable or biodegrable. In fact every single disposable nappy ever made hasn’t started to degrade yet which is a pretty gross thought. Landfill and environmental damage isn’t the only problem either, disposable nappies require vasts resources to be produced, oil, water and other chemicals. Even if you only use one washable nappy per day it makes a difference so, if you haven’t already, give the a go!
Each brand has a wide range of beautiful prints and patterns, whether it’s the excellent themes with Tots Bots, the beautiful designs from Milovia, or our very own Babi Pur elephant designs on Close Pop Ins! Switching to cloth nappies is a great way to reduce the amount of harmful waste that is produced every year, it’ll also save you money in the long term and is kinder to your baby’s skin.
Why not check out our range of nappies? There’s so many to choose from, and for #ZeroWasteWeek while stocks last you’ll even get a free elephant bag when you buy one of our elephant Pop Ins!
Reusable menstrual products
Just like disposable nappies are bad for the environment, so too are tampons and disposable sanitary pads. But there is an alternative! CSP (cloth sanitary pads) and menstrual cups are a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable products. Using CSP can greatly reduce the amount of waste that is produced as a result of using disposable sanitary products.
Not only that but they don’t contain any chemicals that are harmful to the environment and your own health.
Here at Babi Pur we have a great range pf csp, breast pads and menstrual cups and we stock everything you’ll need to make the transfer from disposable sanitary products to reusable, or expand your collection.
Making small changes in the products you use on a regular basis from disposable to reusable alternatives will make a great difference to your life, bank balance and the environment! Every little bit helps, you don’t have to dive in and use them fill time straight away. Our advice would be to try a couple of brands and see which ones you like before buying enough for your period.
Klean Kanteen
Klean Kenteen is all about a more reusable and healthier lifestyle, check out their range of drinks bottles, coffee cups, food containers & more all made from quality stainless steel and available at Babipur.
Disposable coffee cups have recently been highlighted on a recent BBC programme by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall as being a major recycling problem; just imagine all of those cups with their plastic lids being thrown away after people finish their morning coffee on their way to work every day. Did you know that paper disposable coffee cups are NOT recycled by most councils in the UK and so guess where they end up… yup, landfill.
That’s why we are proud to stock the Klean Kanteen range! These beauties are made of stainless steel and are perfectly insulated so your drinks will stay piping hot/ freezing cold for longer! These containers come in a range of colours and sizes and are perfect to take with you to work, picnics, festivals, beaches- anywhere! Bring your own cup to the coffee shop and some even offer a small discount too.
With these fantastic containers you’ll no longer have to worry about having to use those environmentally damaging disposable cups… or cold coffee for that matter! Klean Kanteen also make a wide range of water bottles, cups and containers, great for days out and helps reduce to reduce those purchases of plastic water and drinks bottles. Loads of spares and replaceable parts are available so your Klean Kanteen will pretty much last a life time.
