#babipurSTEM – Anatomy Challenge
This fortnight we want you to explore anatomy! Human or animal we don’t mind either way there’s lots to make, build, discover and learn along the way. We want to see some creative posts from you with parts of the anatomy, their functions and mechanics. Mostly we want to see you having fun with your little ones.
Anatomy
You can’t create anything without learning what it is so this is the perfect opportunity to turn a play session or activity into something educational. Threading beads and buttons could mimic the human spinal cord and whilst your child is busy playing you could drop in a few new words to get them thinking.
Robotic Hand
The best way to understand how something works is to build a model of it and see for yourself. Putting this theory to the test we built a robotic hand with Klean Kanteen straws, Grimms threading laces and an old Babipur box.
Each straw represents a finger or thumb. Our elephant tape is strong enough to affix the straws to a cardboard cut out of a hand, so no waste with this activity. We used the Grimms laces, with simple knots tied at one end to thread through each straw. This allowed our children to wrap them around their own hands and manipulate the straws to control motion in the fingers of our robotic hand!
The anatomy of a human hand is easily demonstrated in this up-cycled crafty visual. The straws, thanks to the flexible silicone tops, imitate the mechanics of a human hand really well.
Grimms Rainbow Heart
We love a good flat lay and we couldn’t resist playing with our Grimms rainbow to recreate the human heart. It’s a very simple depiction but the addition of the Grimms forest pieces helped explain that there are different chambers all connected together in one organ.
How do you enter?
All you have to do is post a picture or video on your public Instagram account or in the Babipur Hangout Group on Facebook showing your little ones making learning fun whilst learning about Anatomy. Use the tag #babipurSTEM so we can find your entries and on Instagram don’t forget to tag @babipur too!
Multiple entries are always encouraged and we’ll post some STEMspiration for you over the fortnight. The challenge will run for 2 weeks and entries will count from today up to Wednesday 10th April 2019 at 11am. Both the winner and the next challenge will be announced shortly after.
What’s the prize?
This fortnight we’re giving away a set of reusable straws so you can have a go at making your own robotic hand, well either that or you can enjoy a nice cold drink! The winner can chose from whichever straws we have in stock, be it; Klean Kanteen or the new flexible rainbow straws from Eco Living.
We’re also giving away a set of Okonorm Modelling clay (choice of in stock colours) as it’s great for little ones to build muscle tone in their busy exploring little fingers. Also handy to make models of different parts of the anatomy
You can find a blog post >here< explaining the concept of STEM if you’re unfamiliar with the idea. Please feel free to ask us any questions, this challenge is all about having fun whilst exploring a simple theme in an educational way.
We can’t wait to see what you all come up with for this challenge. We love looking through your entries and seeing how you make learning fun with Babipur!
