This time Daddy McCann has written an update about life with Fizz. We hope you enjoy reading about Fizz from a dads view....
It was Halloween recently, which doesn’t normally trouble me beyond an urge to play ‘The Monster Mash’ and wheel out various scary films – but this year was different for some reason. It was around this time that strange forces seemed to take over my delightful little daughter, aged little more than 22 months. Her behaviour started to become… odd … aggressive… unstoppable. An update from Chelle, mum to Fizz who together have been testing lots of nappies and other stuff from Babi Pur. When we first met Chelle, she was new to cloth nappies and kindly published her cloth nappy 'diary' on the Babi Pur blog.

When it has been said that there has been an increase in baby eczema it means that more mums (and dads) are becoming more aware of what they place on babies skin from the outset. Read more...

Well I'd love to say that I am not a complete newbie when it comes to cloth nappies now but recently I had the revelation that I have been a bit of a twit! Read more...

Well after the success and love of our Bum Genius V3's Fizz got sent a V4 to compare.
What automatically stood out to me is that the press stud style poppers are a very welcome addition. Now Fizz recently figured out that pulling back the velcro on her V3's made a lovely sound and this has now led to many an occasion of a half attached nappy!
Unable to undo the poppers means Fizz keeps her modesty and we also don't have any accidents!
The improvements to the gusset aren't really noticable until washing. Washing the V4 after a dirty nappy I was surprised to see no staining around the gusset area, the nappy seems to stretch further and it seems it also allows this to wash up better. I suspect that the extra stretch is so the nappy last well into toddling and can also be used during the start of potty training too.
I also liked having a paler colour nappy. It meant not having to think too much about the clothes Fizz had over the nappy.
All in all the V4 has bettered it's predecessor. Not by much but the adaptations were a much welcome change for mum and Fizz.

When I saw a zip lock wet bag featured on Babi Pur I just had to see how different they were from the tote bags and ordered two.
Slightly more expensive I was excited to see the difference they could make to our dirty nappy storage and I was impressed.
When they arrived the outer material was really soft, the inner waterproof. I ordered the tiger and cow print, both fun and eye catching.
These wet bags are great. The zip locked means the smell is kept in and easy to open and close. They are easy to wash and stay soft on the outside. They fold up well for transport in a change bag or buggy basket.
I am really impressed and it is worth the few extra £££'S to have something that looks great but also excels in the practical neccessities too.

We're fast approaching our first six months of using cloth and I have to say that I am so looking forward to the next stage of Fizz's cloth bum adventure.
As Fizz fast approaches her 1st Birthday I am, as most Mums do, evaluating our 1st year together and also what I can take on next year.
We intend to stick to cloth our collection of Flips, V3's, V4's and Original Pop Ins - the flips have now taken over as our day nappy where as the others are perfect for night time and do well overnight. The Itti Bitti wet bag was a great find, more expensive than the Original Pop In tote but the zip lock was a welcome addition for our nursery too.
Our nursery always seem to have a weekly compliment for the flip, they seem to much prefer these to the all in one BG's and it is becoming very rare now that Fizz ever comes home in a disposible (only when explosive situations have made it impossible to reuse the outers).
For me I know that I'll have saved at least a 1000 nappies from landfill. When we have in desperation used a disposible we have tried to make sure it's a eco friendly one. I'll have saved over £150 and I'll have given Fizz's skin the best it can be clothed in. I'm even contacting local hospitals this month to see who stocks cloth and if they could maybe think about supllying new mums with fluff!
So how are you finding your cloth adventure?
How do you choose the perfect nappy for your little one?
My first nappy choice was made for me when I won a starter kit with Bum Genius V3’s. I really liked them and was happy to start on my cloth adventure. Read more...

The past two weeks we've had quite a red bum.
After testing a few theories out I can now laugh in the face of others who think it is due to having a cloth bum.
In fact the Pop In Originals have been the best things for Fizz, they are ultra absorbent and keep her dryer longer. Our nursery uses disposibles and Fizz has come home more often than not with one on (I'm working on building up my collection with Flips to ensure this doesn't happen for much longer and also encouraging them to go cloth free)
Fizz's bum seems much better in the mornings, using the Pop In overnight. Throughout the day it does not matter what we or the nursery use but her bum gets redder and redder. We have used a variety of products - a leading brand, an organic balm and an expensive baby spa range. To be fair all of them work differently. The organic range tends to work quickly compared to the other two but they are all much of a muchness.
So I'm asking - How can you keep a bum rash free? Or is it one of those impossible things that the onset of weaning brings and will just fade out in time?

I love, love, love this nappy!
The nappy comes in four lovely pastel colours and white. I just have to complete my collection with Duck Egg and Coconut.
The absorbency of this nappy makes it ideal for a night time nappy. I called Jolene from Babi Pur for advice on which nappies to try and she suggested we try the Close Parent Pop in bamboo nappy. Bamboo is really absorbent, this shows in the length of drying dry it needs. This is the only reuable I've tried that needs two days drying time but for me that just highlights how absorbent it is. The nappy has a double gusset and so far in about two months we've not had any leakages!
It's worth having at least two of the nappies to allow for the drying time and so you don't have to do a daily wash but they are priced very reasonably.
We also have the Pop In Tote bags in size small and medium. The small size is perfect to be sent with Fizz to nursery or being out and about for a day as it can fit a days worth of nappies. The medium is perfect for at home. It hangs in the toilet and fits around two days worth of nappies. They are also colourful and stripey meaning your bag will always stand out compared to the plain totes normally used with reusables. They keep any smells in the bag so no need to worry about using any oils to dilute the smell of dirty nappies.
The Pop In liners are really good too. Our first set of liners were a non branded liner. The Pop In Liner was thinner fitting into the nappy and not spilling out of the gusset (we had found this with another liner and it created leakage gaps).
I have to say I have become a big fan of the Pop In and I have hoping to complete my collection of colours soon!
