The Babi Pur team visited the kids fashion show Bubble in London last week on the hunt for some new organic baby and kids clothing lines.  What we discovered were some great new clothes from all our favourite suppliers such as Frugi, Piccalilly and Green Baby.  All three companies have achieved Fairtrade certification  for their cotton products and all three have some amazing new clothes for autumn/winter and summer 2010.  We can’t wait to show you all their new lovely clothes so keep an eye out at  www.babipur.co.uk in the coming months.

Organic cotton baby and childrens clothes are becoming more popular as people get to know the many benefits.  Better conditions for third world farmers,  less environmental impact and no harmful chemicals next to our childrens skin.

Washable wipes & home made baby wipe solution recipes

ByJo

washable bamboo baby wipesUsing washable wipes is much more environmentally friendly than using disposables and will save you money as well.  Face flannels make great inexpensive wipes.  The pop-in bamboo wipes are excellent value for money and the natural fibre is kind to the environment too.

Fancy making your own solution for washable baby wipes?  Here's a few recipes... please let us know if you have any more by leaving your comments below

 1. 1 part olive oil, 1 part distilled water and 1 part baby shampoo/bodywash (mix together and pour over wipes)

2. a cup of camomile tea (cooled) a little olive oil and a drop of tea tree

3.  Warm water from the tap!  Many people use just warm water for wiping delicate bottoms.  There is no need to use toiletries on very young babies

In the 2009 New Years Honours List, Mrs Samantha Morshed, Founder of Hathay Bunano p.s. (HBPS), has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), for her services to the rural poor and disadvantaged women of Bangladesh.

HBPS was started in 2005 with the aim of creating employment for the rural poor women of Bangladesh  that is fairly paid, good quality, flexible and local.   To create employment  that fits in with the women’s lives and prevents the need for economic migration and family separation.

HBPS works on the principle that mothers and babies should be together and that all mothers should be afforded the dignity to be able to adequately provide for their children.  That every adult should have the right to a good job and a decent home and that it is our responsibility as a society to enable this.

Samantha Morshed started HBPS by teaching a small group of women how to knit by hand and then finding an export market for those products.  HBPS now creates work for almost 3,500 artisans in 32 rural production centres all over Bangladesh and is continuing to expand rapidly through market demand.   The products are exported over much of the world to USA, UK, Australia, Scandinavia, Middle East and Europe.

Samantha Morshed is a British woman married to Golam Morshed, Chairman of HBPS, and Bangladesh is now her adopted home.  ‘Bangladesh is a beautiful country full of great potential.  It is a country rich in manpower who are waiting for the opportunity for good quality work.   Coming here five years ago, I felt that I had skills and abilities that could be put to good use to make the lives of some Bangladeshis a little better.   Five years on, we still have a huge amount of work to do but we have proved that it is possible and that is the greatest hurdle.’  Samantha Morshed said.

HBPS produces a whole range of hand knitted childrenswear and childrens products and these are also sold in Dhaka at Insignia on the Lobby Level of the Westin Hotel.

If you’re looking for a dress that looks great on babies and toddlers, is bright, colourful as well as being ethically produced take a look at this gorgeous little number by Piccalilly in sizes 6 months to 2 years

This organic cotton dress is made from Fairtrade certified cotton and comes in three bright colours...  ‘Raspberry’ ‘Blackcurrant’ and ‘Brick Red’ I bought the ‘Blackcurrant’ and ‘Brick Red’ for my little girl Isabelle nearly a year ago.  She’s continued to wear them even though she’s outgrown the 12-18 size!  It looks great as a top when outgrown and the best thing about this dress is that it still looks like new after months of wear and washing.
